Einen Tag nach Herausgabe eines Berichts zur Menschenrechtslage im Iran durch die US-Regierung hebt das US-Außenministerium nochmals die Verfolgung religiöser Minderheiten im Iran hervor. CNN zitiert die Stellungnahme Philip J. Crowleys, assistant secretary for public affairs im US-amerikanischen State Department, der die Übergriffe auf Bahá’í und Christen in den letzten Monaten kritisiert:
„The United States is increasingly concerned about the Iran’s ongoing persecution of Baha’is and other religious minority communities.“
Im gestrigen Iran-Bericht heißt es:
Government rhetoric and actions created a threatening atmosphere for nearly all non-Shia religious groups, most notably for Baha’is, as well as for Sunni Muslims, evangelical Christians, and members of the Jewish community.
The government repeatedly pressured Baha’is to recant their religious beliefs in exchange for relief from mistreatment.
